There seems to be a new diet every day, but not all of them are valid. How can the average person sort through the rubbish to decipher the legitimate diets from the fluff? The sources are out there, but it takes a bit of digging. We did that digging and this is what we found: The Mediterranean Diet is voted the best diet of 2018, and we have the perfect meal kits.
Eating Habits of Greece, Southern Italy, and Spain
The Mediterranean Diet is based on the traditional eating habits of people who live in Mediterranean countries, like Greece, Southern Italy, and Spain. Research has shown that the Mediterranean Diet is linked with people having better cardiovascular health and living longer lives.
It’s a fairly simple diet to follow. It’s not a structured diet because Greeks eat differently than Italians, who eat differently than people in Spain, etc. But the same principles are intact. Consider this diet an eating pattern and a way of life, not a step-by-step instructional.
The Mediterranean Diet is mostly made up of fruits and vegetables, whole wheat, and foods that have “healthy” fat like fish, nuts, beans, legumes, and olive oil. Red meat and sweets are supposed to be consumed in moderation, and the diet works best if you instill a physically active lifestyle.
The Mediterranean Diet is Ranked #1 Diet in 2018
The claim that the Mediterranean Diet is the best overall diet in 2018 was made by U.S. News and World Report in January 2018. U.S. News enlisted the professional advice of a panel of food and health experts to judge 40 diets and rank them on a variety of categories, like the simplicity of the diet, the safety of the diet, and whether the diet protects against diabetes and heart disease.
“With its emphasis on fruits, vegetables, olive oil, fish and other healthy fares, the Mediterranean diet is eminently sensible.”
— Expert Panel Review, 2018

The Best Diet is Eating like a Greek God
In the discussion about the Mediterranean Diet, U.S. News experts also suggested enjoying a glass of wine with your meals.
“It’s a staple of many Mediterranean diets, and research suggests that it may do your heart a favor.” — U.S. News, 2018
It is a fun fact to consider, that mild consumption of some varieties of red wine may enhance health.
The idea of drinking wine while eating fruits and fresh fish on the Mediterranean coast conjure up images of Greek gods. So apparently, eating like a Greek god is the #1 diet of 2018. We can definitely get behind with that.
