LA’s Newest Restaurant by Chris Santos
Chef Chris Santos takes Los Angeles with a swanky new dining experience.
Chef Chris Santos can’t be contained...to one major US city. His widely popular Beauty & Essex has been one of New York’s most exciting dining establishments since it’s opening in 2011. Since then, Chris Santos has opened two more locations, one in Las Vegas, and the other in heart of Los Angeles.
We’ve stepped behind the scenes of Beauty & Essex in Hollywood with the wildly entertaining Chris Santos as our tour guide.
"Unique to Hollywood, the atmosphere of the 10,000 square foot space is both grand and intimate, moody and effervescent. Various rooms for lounging and dining unfold on two floors, each room has its own unique elements that celebrate timeless jewelry designs and upscale jewelry stores. The space is truly versatile and is ideal for corporate events, fashion shows, bachelorette parties, movie premieres, film shoots and just a night on the town with your family & friends." - Chris Santos
These restaurants pack in everything sexy and cool. Each location has an innovative interior that pays homage to a life that a member of the 1920’s elite might lead. Tables and chairs are replaced with velvet-clad sofas, the bars (yes, plural) are filed any elixir imaginable, the double-height main dining room is fit with a 20-foot oval skylight, and a double-decker outdoor courtyard that let’s you enjoy the SoCal sun, but let’s not forget about the best feature of this restaurant—the menu.
On the Menu
Chris Santos has filled his Los Angeles menu with multi-ethnic cuisine that truly showcases his personal cooking style and, of course, his signature Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup Dumplings have followed him all the way from New York.
You can expect a flurry of complex dishes that will make you question everything you know about food.
Tuna Poke Wonton Tacos, Oven Braised Chicken Meatballs, and Tomato Tartare are just a few of the many crazy menu items you can expect to see inside the menu at Beauty & Essex.
"Small or share plate restaurants allow the diner more freedom to explore the menu as a whole, and to sample more dishes that we have created. Normal portions in a share plate setting can work, as they do at Beauty & Essex; but in a traditional Appetizer/Entree/Dessert format it's a little limiting. What we have done, I think, is taken the "tasting menu" concept and loosened it up so that, in effect, each table is choosing the tasting menu that suits them best!"- Chris Santos
Chris Santos is no stranger to Chef’d. He’s been a proud partner to our meal kit company from our earliest days. We’ve transformed some of his most popular recipes into easy-to-prep meal kits that are shipped with everything you need right to your door.
If you want to cook like Chris Santos, you can. Struggling over his 10 drool-inducing options? Try his Grilled Chipotle Shrimp with Tomatillo, Roasted Corn and Feta Salsa. Chris Santos relies on this marinade whenever he’s in a bind.
"My Chipotle Grilled Shrimp marinade is by far one of my all-time favorites. It's been with me for such a long time and it's a winner with the crowd every time. It has everything you want in a spicy yet also sweet combination. While this is great on shrimp, the best part is it is so universal. The marinade could be used on anything from chicken and steak to tofu! If I'm having a group get together, this is always on the menu and always one of the first to run out!" - Chris Santos
