When you receive your Chef’d box, we hope that it’s an exciting moment. After exploring the website a bit, you discovered a meal kit that caught your eye, you ordered it and then with bated breath, you waited for this exact point: the arrival.
Going Green with Your Orange Chef’d Box
After sifting through the ingredients and following the recipe card, you created an excellent meal. Perhaps you even took a picture of it and tagged us @Chefd on Instagram, because of how beautifully it came out. Dinner is served and it’s delicious.
But that’s not the end of the story.
The orange box and its contents remain and you’re wondering what to do with it all. We’re here to help. Many of our packaging items are recyclable or reusable.
We’ll show you how to properly recycle your Chef’d box and its contents.
Remove everything that’s inside the box.
Before you completely dispose of your box, be sure to remove the insulation, the inserts, the foam, the cardboard inserts, and everything else.
The foam liner within is made up of 100% sustainable materials. It is also reusable. If you’d like to recycle the foam liner, you can take it to a polyurethane recycling depot. Find the closest recycling depot for your needs, here.
The ice packs are safe and reusable.
The ice packs that we use in our packaging are 100% non-toxic. In fact, they’re made up of the same product that’s used in baby diapers—so you know it’s safe. You can store these ice packs in your freezer to reuse them for your own needs.
Before you can dispose of the ice packs, you have to wait until they melt. Once they’re melted, cut open the top of the ice pack and pour it into the sink while running hot water. Pour only one ice pack into your sink at a time to prevent the sink from becoming clogged. The outer plastic can then be recycled in your recycling bin.
Break down your box.
Once your box is completely empty and you’re ready to bring it to a recycling bin, we ask that you please break down the box. Start by unfolding the inside flaps. Next, lay the entire box flat and then fold it in half. Now it’s ready to be put into the recycling bin.
